From OR Tambo, the Gautrain reaches Sandton in about 15 minutes, while the road trip varies with traffic. Since 1 July 2026, travellers must also complete an online traveller declaration before arriving or departing.
Before you fly: the online traveller declaration
Since 1 July 2026, most travellers entering or leaving South Africa by air, land, sea or rail must submit an online traveller declaration to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) before travelling, via the SARS website or the SATMS app. It is separate from visa rules. Keep the confirmation to show at the border. Transit passengers who stay airside are excluded.
